Chirbat Chanut

Check out this park with ruins from the Greek era. There is a large intact mozaic at the entrance to the parking lot.

It is an easy place to get to as it's off the road between Bet Shemesh and Beitar. Bring bikes and hiking shoes. Plenty of areas to explore and if you are of the hiking type you can get to the following locations. See the next entries.

There are no bathrooms. It is wheelchair accessible and there is a water faucet.

Ein Matta and the Palm Plantation

Get on your walking shoes. This is a walk for the older kids. It's great to start at Chirbat Chanut and walk downhill to Ein Matta and the Palms. Don't forget that the walk back up the road is challenging! Bring plenty of water!

Here is the location for the spring, it is accessible by car through Moshav Matta. : https://maps.app.goo.gl/TGgLi97TNNB8bqj36?g_st=awb

The Date Palms near Ein Matta

The date plantation is accessible by a walk from Chirbat Chanut

or from the spring.

If walking from Chirbat Chanut, this is a walk for the older kids and people who are fit. There are also ruins in the area that are great to explore.

Mitzpe Masua, Park Britania

This location is very accessible by using the paved roads in Park Britania. The views in every direction are amazing! There are no bathrooms but there are plenty of tables for picnics and BBQ. Let the kids climb all over the mifletzet!

Sorek River

The Sorek River is an important ecological feature in Bet Shemesh. Despite the fact that the waters are not fit to swim in, they harbor much life, as do the banks of the river. The lush greenery of this via parion corridor has many types of mammals and reptiles. We often see turtles, jackals, and multiple species of birds. I've recently spotted wild pigs in the area! A great place to bring nets and binoculars. Don't go in the water.

No wheelchair access or toilets.
