Lighting Fires, Building Trust

I’m BD Greenman — your Cowboy Rabbi from Israel.
After teaching kids fire safety, the first thing we let them do is light a fire. That’s not a contradiction—it’s the point.
Lighting a fire teaches trust. Once kids know the rules and see them modeled, we give them real responsibility. We’re saying: We trust you.
When a child realizes they’re trusted with something that’s actually dangerous, something real, they step up. They feel believed in—and that changes how they show up.
No matter a child’s scholastic level, everyone can succeed here. Following the rules, gathering wood, building the base, setting the stones—there are endless chances to do it right and be praised for it.
Fire becomes the foundation: follow the rules, earn responsibility, prove yourself, and open the door to greater opportunity.
