This week at OLT, the boys learned how to build an emergency stretcher using only sticks, shoelaces, and trash bags.
Was it fun? Absolutely.
But it was also something much deeper.
Most children—and many adults—would have no idea what to do if someone were injured in the wilderness. Through hands-on learning, role-playing, and real outdoor skills, our boys now know how to improvise, problem-solve, and help in an emergency.
They learned that with a little creativity and knowledge, ordinary materials can become a tool that could save a life.
Skills like these do more than prepare boys for the outdoors. They build confidence. They create self-reliance. They show a child that he is capable of doing hard things.
And when a boy realizes he can do something that most people can't, it changes how he sees himself.
That's what OLT is all about. Outdoor. Active. Real Learning.
