I don't carry things I don't use.
After 8 months of daily carry — in the field, on the trail, with the boys at OLT — the Leatherman Skeletool CX has earned its place in my pocket. That's not something I say lightly.
What's On It
The Skeletool CX keeps it clean. No unnecessary tools. Just what you actually need.
Pliers — solid, full-size feel despite the slim profile. Wire cutters and wire strippers built in.
The knife — this is what I reach for 80% of the time. Locking blade, straight edge with
serrations, lever lock. It's sharp, it holds an edge, and it sharpens nicely. For everyday tasks in the field, it handles everything I throw at it.
The bits — a replaceable Phillips head with a stored flat head inside the handle. Simple, practical, always there when you need it.
The bottle opener/clip — doubles as a way to hang the whole tool right off your bag. Small detail, genuinely useful.
Why It Works
The Skeletool CX succeeds because it doesn't try to do everything. It does the right things — and does them well.
It carries great. Doesn't feel heavy. Doesn't feel cheap. And after 8 months of real daily use it still performs exactly as it did on day one.
At under $100 it is a tool that pays for itself quickly. The difference between a quality multi-tool and a cheap one shows up fast in the field — and this one is quality.
The Bottom Line
8 months. Every single day. Still reaching for it.
That's the review. 🔧🌿
