How to Tie a Trucker’s Hitch

The trucker’s hitch is a very useful knot when you need to pull a rope tight to secure something. It works like a simple pulley system, giving you extra leverage to tighten a rope. For example, you might use it to tie a chair to the back of a truck or secure gear to a fence or post.
Instructions
Anchor one end of the rope. Tie one end of the rope securely to the first object (for example, the chair or the anchor point on the truck).
Make a loop in the middle of the rope. Create a loop in the standing part of the rope. This loop acts as a point that gives you friction and mechanical advantage to tighten the line.
Wrap the rope around the second anchor point. Take the working end of the rope and wrap it around the second object (such as the other side of the truck or a fence post).
Thread the rope through the loop. Bring the rope back toward the loop you created in the middle and pass the working end through the loop.
Pull tight. Pull the rope to tighten the system. The loop acts like a pulley, allowing you to pull the rope much tighter than you normally could.
Secure the rope. Once the rope is tight, tie one or two half hitches around the standing line to hold everything in place.
Untying the knot. When you’re finished, simply pull the half hitches loose and the system will release easily.
