The 5 C's of Survival — What to Have When You're Uncomfortably Camping
Sometimes life puts you in a situation where you need to survive — not thrive. This is what we call "uncomfortably camping." And the 5 C's are what get you through it.
Based on the framework developed by survival expert Dave Canterbury in his bestselling book Bushcraft 101 — these five categories are the foundation of any survival kit.
The 5 C's
Cutting Tools — Saw and knife. Non-negotiable. Every kit needs both.
Cover — A rain poncho covers you and your gear, works as a tarp or shelter, and weighs almost nothing. Shelter needs three elements: something to sleep on, in, and under. Stakes to peg out a tarp. Simple.
Combustion — The ability to make fire. Ferro rod. Wax cotton tinder. Always.
Container — A medicine container with a flashlight inside. Waterproof. Compact. Always in the bag. Tip: tape the light so it doesn't turn on accidentally.
Cordage — Paracord. Tie, secure, build. Endless uses in the field.
Know these five. Carry these five. You'll be ready for whatever comes. 🌿🔥
