Every tool has its place.
The Skeletool lives in my pocket. The Rebar lives in my cars. And the Leatherman Wave+ lives in my saddlebag — right there on the horse, ready for whatever the trail throws at me.
18 tools. One flip. Everything you need and then some.
What's On It
The Wave+ is the most complete multi-tool I carry. Here's what you get:
Outside — accessible without opening:
Serrated blade
Straight edge blade
File
Saw
Four tools you can reach in seconds without unfolding anything. That matters in the field.
One-handed flip open — the blades deploy with a single-handed flip. Clean, fast, reliable.
Inside:
Pliers
Wire cutters and strippers with replaceable cutting surfaces — both cutting and stripping. This is a big deal. When the edges wear down, you replace them instead of replacing the whole tool.
Bottle opener
Replaceable bit holder
Large flat head
Phillips head
Folding scissors
Small exchangeable eyeglass screwdriver — Phillips and flat head. Also useful for cleaning the sights on your weapon.
8 inch ruler
Locking — everything locks with a thumb device. Safe and solid.
How It Compares
This is the biggest, most feature-rich tool in the Leatherman lineup that I carry.
The Skeletool is slim and pocket-friendly. The Rebar adds more tools. The Wave+ is the full package — 18 tools, replaceable parts, one-handed deployment, and a build quality that justifies every cent of the $130 price tag.
It is too heavy for a pocket carry. This is a sheath tool. A saddlebag tool. A work belt tool. The kind of thing you strap on when you know you're going to need it.
The Replaceable Cutting Surfaces
This deserves its own mention.
Most multi-tools are throw-away when the cutting edges wear down. The Wave+ has replaceable wire cutters and strippers — which means this tool can last a lifetime if you take care of it. That changes the value proposition entirely.
The Bottom Line
$130 on Amazon. 18 tools. Replaceable parts. One-handed open. Locking blades.
This is the tool that lives in my saddlebag because when I'm out on the horse and something needs doing — I want the most capable tool I have within reach.
Heavy for a pocket. Perfect for everything else. 🔧🌿
