This footage shows a lone hyena passing through the forest behind Ramat Beit Shemesh—captured both during the day and at night. Same path, same animal—two completely different scenes.
The striped hyena, found in Israel, is usually nocturnal but can sometimes be active during the day. It is a quiet, intelligent animal that plays an important role in the ecosystem by cleaning up carrion.
Are they dangerous?
Hyenas generally avoid humans. They can be dangerous if threatened, cornered, or if they become used to human food—but attacks are very rare.
A simple reminder: don’t approach, don’t feed, and keep a respectful distance.
This brief glimpse shows something easy to forget—wildlife is living right alongside us, day and night.
